Gabi Garcia Life after ADCC 2011

There's no question as to who is the dominant female in BJJ in the last couple of years: the name is Gabi Garcia! With a string of World Absolute titles shared with teammate and friend Luana Alzuguir and matching weight division titles, Pan and World BJJ Pro titles, Gabi had won it all. There was one title however that she hadn't conquered, ADCC! Gabi set out to reach her goal with her incredible dedication and training schedule, but the path to ADCC wouldn't be so easy, the loss of a close family member challenged Gabi's dedication and determination like never before. She questioned whether she would be able to overcome the loss so close to the event, however her desire to win fueled her to move forward and stay the course. The reward was too great and the mission couldn't be stopped.
The trip to Birmingham, England to ADCC turned out to be one of the most memorable in Gabi's life and she learned more about herself and her ability to overcome life's great challenges. Here are Gabi's thoughts on life after ADCC 2011: (read more)

Vinny Magalhaes Life After ADCC 2011

Vinny Magalhaes has been on the limelight for some time now. After moving to the US from his native Brazil, Vinny exploded in popularity with his appearance in The Ultimate Fighter program. His great performances up until the setback in the finals of TUF against Ryan Bader. Vinny was highly regarded by many, including UFC Kingmaker Dana White as having the best BJJ for MMA. After the TUF, Vinny fought in UFC and lost a decision and was let go. But his dream still burned strong and he set out to make a return to the UFC. He went back to the training mats and fought in various events and currently is in the middle of a 5 fight winning streak (last4 in M-1).

But along the MMA way Vinny still found time to compete in ADCC, in '09 he had spectacular matches but fell short of winning. He corrected that in 2011 and came out with Gold.  Here is what Vinny had to say about where he is and his plans:(read more)

Dean Lister Life After ADCC 2011

I've known Dean Lister since his first days in BJJ. I clearly remember the young man that came with a  Shooto background and wanted to apply foot and leg locks on everyone back in the day. I also clearly remember counseling him, almost to the point of admonishment, that he shouldn't do leg and foot locks! I'm glad he didn't listen as over the years, Dean developed into a foot and leg lock machine. Along the way Dean "The Machine" or Dean "The Boogeyman" Lister, (as he is known for striking fear in his opponent's for his heel hooks and other submissions) collected many BJJ, Submission Grappling and MMA titles. In 2003 in ADCC Brazil Dean won the Absolute title, defeating all his opponents, including Nate Marquadt, Saulo Ribeiro, Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz and Alexandre "Cacareco" by submission to seal his name as ADCC elite. The following ADCC edition Dean defeated the legendary Jean Jacques Machado in the Superfight and was scheduled to face Ricardo Arona in the 2007 Superfight but due to MMA conflicts that match never occurred. UFC 140 Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira's Aftermath

UFC 140 went down this past Saturday at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Canada. The event had tremendous fights with great action. In the second to last fight of the night, BJJ and MMA legend Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira fought against former UFC Champion Frank Mir. The action packed first round had intensity and drama and ended when Frank Mir caught "Minotauro" with a devastating 'kimura" for a submission win. (read more)

Kyra Gracie is one of the winning-est female competitors of all time, with multiple World BJJ titles and an ADCC title in 2007, Kyra reached an elite level that few competitors male or female has ever attained. After having to miss ADC '09 in Barcelona and losing the finals of the Worlds BJJ in '11 Kyra set out to make a statement in ADCC 2011. She not only competed but won both matches by submission and avenged her loss to Michelle Nichollini in the finals. (read more)

Reef's Off The Wall Bomb - Forecast for the Pipe Master - John John Florence Wins World Cup of Surfing

Pipe Masters Forecast

The Pipe Masters is one of the most prestigious surfing events but the last few years it has been plagued by less than stellar surfing conditions (for the most part), however this year things are shaping out to be different. Most Pipe addicts will tell you that the Pipe reef loves West swells. with the event scheduled waiting period beginning December 8, this are looking good - check out the predicted storm/wave path below



John John Florence Destroys Sunset and takes the Vans World Cup of Surfing

North Shore phenom John John Florence put on a show during the Sunset World Cup of Surfing. John John was the standout in he final two days and absolutely destroyed the waves in his heats. The finals was one of the best finals ever. Royce Gracie Seminar to benefit local boy’s soccer team.

When: Lomita, California  December 3&4, 2011

Royce Gracie, 3 time UFC champion and MMA Hall of Famer, announces seminar to benefit local boy’s non-profit soccer team. Saturday December 3rd and Sunday December 4th. Royce will be at the Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu network in Lomita for two days of seminars taught by the legend himself.

Saturday’s classes include kid’s self defense from 1:00pm-2:30pm, 3:00pm-5:00pm adult’s self defense and a meet & greet from 5:00pm-6:00pm to have autographs signed and photos taken. Sunday’s seminar includes a self defense/ jiu-jitsu class from 10:00 am-11:30 am for children ages 11-15.  From 12:00pm-2:00pm Royce will teach a Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu technique class for adults. The day will end with a MMA adult seminar from 4:00pm-6:00pm. In addition to the RGJJ seminars, James Strom, former USC strength coach and professional athletic trainer will offer a one hour circuit training workout from 2:30pm-3:30pm on Sunday. There will be door prizes, raffles and a silent auction. Seminar prices are $25.00 for circuit training classs,$35.00 per class for children, $50.00 per class for adults. Spectators are welcome to observe any seminar for a $5.00 fee.

Royce is donating 100% of all proceeds from this event to the Exiles Black boys U-15 soccer team.  The Exiles Soccer Club is a non-profit youth athletic organization that was founded in 1976 in the South Bay. The club is committed to providing a safe and highly competitive soccer program for a diverse group of youth. All revenue generated from this event will help fund scholarships, uniforms and travel throughout the U.S. and abroad.
